Suspect Nabbed In Fatal Shooting At Long Island House Party

A Medford man has been charged in the fatal shooting of an East Patchogue man during a fight outside a house party over the weekend.

Nassau County Police Homicide Squad detectives charged Corey Coach, 25, with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon on Wednesdayy, July 10, police said.

Coach is accused of shooting and killing Darnell Smith, 36, about 1:35 a.m. Saturday, July 6, after a fight broke out near Cedar and West lanes in Medford, detectives said.

Police responded to the area after receiving numerous 911 calls about a large group of people fighting.

Smith was taken by private vehicle to the Coram Fire Department, he was then taken by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

He is expected to be arraigned Thursday, July 11.
